PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
I need the best quality photos possible. If you don’t have a camera, you can use your phone or iPad.. but clean the lens first! I will need photos that represent the composition of how you want your painting to look, so take some photos with the ENTIRE house from head on, and from a variety of angles. Try to chose the best, most flattering angle. It also helps to have some closer up/detail photos (especially the front door, shutters, landscaping/flower pots or anything unique to the home).
The 2 biggest mistakes when taking photos:
When you take the photos that show the whole house, back up far enough in order to leave some space on either end of the house — I need to see the yard/landscaping on both sides. If the neighbors’ wood pile or trash can is there, no worries, I can remove it! I need that extra information on the sides so when you matt and/or frame your painting, you aren’t cropping the house off.
People think the only time they should photograph is in full sun. Full sun does offer beautiful shadows, but the detail of the house often shows better on a cloudy day. If you have the opportunity, take the house in both conditions (sunny/cloudy). I never complain if I get too many photos!
